It is America's day to celebrate outstanding student-athletes who have achieved excellence in academics and athletics while having made significant contribution to the community. National Student-Athlete Day has been an annual event since 1987. The Nichols chapter is the ninth local chapter in Massachusetts to honor members based on outstanding scholarship (a minimum 3.4 grade point average based on a 4.0 scale), earned athletic letter winner, and excellent character and citizenship. All 43 conferences in the NCAA's largest division, comprised of 442 member institutions, are joining together from April 9-15 to celebrate Division III, where student-athletes compete for the love of the game while excelling in the classroom and demonstrating leadership, community service and campus involvement.ĭirector of Athletics Charlyn Robert inducted 28 new members into Chi Alpha Sigma, the National College Athlete Honor Society.
The event kicked off the inaugural NCAA Division III Week a little early. Varsity student-athletes were honored at a ceremony held in Daniels Auditorium and were recognized for maintaining a cumulative grade-point average of over 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale).
